It is quite a feeling when you walk up that curved staircase to the upper deck of a Qatar Airways A380. For a first-timer, the scale of the "Superjumbo" alone is impressive, but the Business Class cabin — bathed in that iconic deep burgundy and soft pink LED glow — feels more like a high-end lounge than an airplane.
If you are settling into this seat for the first time, here is the breakdown of what to expect, from the "wow" moments to the minor quirks.
The Good: Why You'll Love It
Because this is on the upper deck, the cabin walls curve inward, creating a sense of privacy even without the sliding doors of the newer Qsuites. The 1-2-1 configuration means you never have to climb over a neighbor. And the seat width is genuinely generous — I'm a side-sleeper and this is one of the few business class products that actually accommodated that.
The onboard lounge is the undisputed crown jewel. Just a short walk behind your seat is the horseshoe-shaped bar. It is the best place in the sky to grab a cocktail, some warm nuts, and actually stretch your legs while chatting with other travelers. I spent far more time there than I'd planned.
“You aren't stuck on the crew's schedule. If you want your meal at 3:00 AM and breakfast right before landing, they'll make it happen. The table setup feels like a proper restaurant.
The bed flips into a fully flat 80-inch bed. Qatar provides a quilted mattress pad, a heavy duvet, and plush pillows that make actual sleep much easier than in standard upright seats. I landed rested in a way that felt like a minor miracle after a long-haul flight.
The Bad: Small Trade-offs
Unlike the Qsuite, which has large side-tables, most storage here is in a bin under your armrest. It's a bit snug for a laptop or a large bag — something worth knowing before you pack. And if you're used to the Qsuite's total "do not disturb" privacy, you might feel a bit exposed here. This is a social cabin, not a private pod.
The windows are also worth mentioning: because of the A380's thick hull, they are quite far from the seat. You have to lean forward significantly to get those wing-view photos. A minor complaint in the grand scheme of things, but worth knowing before you choose your seat.
Seat Selection Tip
If you are traveling solo, grab a window seat (A or K). If you are with a partner, the middle seats (E and F) are perfect for chatting — though there is a divider you can raise if you end up sitting next to a stranger.
